When you think of BlackBerry, what's the first thing you think about? If you're like most people, the answer is smartphones. BlackBerry was one of the first manufacturers on the smartphone scene; integrating a keyboard and emailing capabilities in a cell phone. However, since then, cell phones have grown rapidly. Today's smartphone makes the old BlackBerry look like an ancient piece of work; which is why the company has been struggling so much in the smart phone market recently. However, according to rumors, BlackBerry is going to jump on the bandwagon with regard to advanced smartphone operating systems by creating a phone that runs on Google's Android operating system.
Are The Rumors True
BlackBerry hasn't made an official announcement with regard to whether or not these rumors are true; so, at this point, there really is no telling. However, the idea really makes sense. The bottom line is that blackberry is great at the hardware aspect; but their operating system could use some work. So, by taking advantage of the Android operating system, the company may be able to bring life to their smartphone division. Also, with the ongoing debate revolving around an acquisition of BlackBerry by Google, this would make sense as a test if that were indeed on the horizons. All in all, it's definitely something that could happen.
What Would Happen If BlackBerry Did Release An Android Phone
If BlackBerry were to release a phone that ran on the Android operating system, I'd imagine that we would see an overwhelmingly positive reaction in the market. When it comes to blackberry their problem isn't their design, hardware, or durability; it's that they have fallen behind the times when it comes to smartphone operating system. So, if BlackBerry were to take their excellent manufacturing and design abilities, and pair it with Google's top notch operating system, it would be a match made in heaven; and likely a very profitable one. In this case, I would imagine that investors would go wild and the stock would climb up.
How You Should Trade BlackBerry Options From Here
When trading any stock options, it's important not to react to rumors. I'm sure that there are several traders that have purchased calls based on the rumor. However, until the rumor becomes fact, it's likely a losing bet. So, when trading BlackBerry, consider the current and ongoing trend. The stock has been falling for quite some time now; and is likely to continue doing so until a real catalyst actually happens. So, now is the time for put options when trading BBRY.
However, if BlackBerry does indeed release a phone that is Android capable, there may be great opportunities for call options. Keep an eye on the company and any press releases you can find. If and when this happens, open the candlestick chart and track the trend; as it's likely to lead to a strong uptrend. At this point, profits would easily be made on call options.
